It's integral to a stable and reliable system to have redundancy built into the infrastructure. Redundancy allows for graceful fail-over if an outage should occur in a particular region.
IHRDC has a disaster recovery plan that allows for a Recovery Point Objective (RPO) of 24 hrs and a Recovery Time Objective (RTO) of 6 hours.
The IHRDC architecture leverages three AWS regions and separate AWS accounts to maximize protection against regional outages and/or hijacking our AWS account. A cross-region/cross-account implementation provides the most reliable method of recovering after a significant infrastructure event.
Below is an example of the IHRDC normal operations followed by examples of disaster scenarios in a given region and how the the infrastructure would be restored.
